Go Goa Gone – Movie Review

image

I haven’t updated my blog from a long time and I thought Blogoversary( which is just a fortnight away) would be a good time for that. But then Life has its own way of spoiling your plans or should I say “Karma” has a way of getting back at you.

I don’t know what possessed me that I thought of watching this movie “Go Goa Gone” after reading a few online reviews. It is a good movie no doubt just not my kind. It is not a horror movie but a zomcom i.e. a zombie comedy or whatever that means. Dark humour at its best you can say. Who can imagine running around trees with a zombie while a romantic song plays in the background?

Though I personally loved a few comic scenes, I am not able to get a few macabre scenes out of my head. They are just too gory for my taste. Why am I writing this? Coz although it is a good movie if you can’t take that extra bit of violent scenes or take pleasure in dark humour, Think twice before you enter the cinema hall. Ditto if you are expecting a horror movie or a Hollywood type zombie movie or only a comedy movie. Everyone else will love the movie or so I hope. Nice story, characterization & acting. At least different if nothing else.

And yes no matter what is the reason, please don’t take your kids along. I saw a few kids in the hall & wondered why would any parent/ parents do that? Any thoughts?

Cubevilled

Cubeville_Morse_Code - Dilbert

A day in cubeville - Dilbert

I have been cubevilled. No, no, this did not happen yesterday. Just that the realization dawned upon me very recently. I have noticed a few people also recognise me as a corporate prisoner. Doesn’t sound good. I think they are just jealous. These are the ones who could not gain access to the cubeville. Anyway, now I am an inmate of the cubeville proudly :) Now I laugh, cry , sing , dance and live on the days of the week called as Saturday and Sunday. I am the happiest on a day called Friday and use terms like TGIF to describe my happiness.  I also use terms like paradigm shift, leverage and out of the box thinking to gain more acceptance from the folks around me in the cubeville.

Life here is interesting from the normal life outside. People here seem to think they can control everything around them. It starts with conditioning the breathing air around them with devices called as Air-conditioners. Using this they adjust the room temperature to sub zero levels to get a feel of the more attractive far-off Antartic regions which are considered the advanced ones. The people here also try to imitate the species staying there while speaking, laughing, walking and sleeping and eat and wear stuff popular out there. The more similar you are to those species the more worthy you are considered. And then there is planning. It is a must to also have a plan to plan.

And this one has a festival coming up every month(Isn’t that cool? ) and the holy day is called salary day. The major leisure activity around this part of the world is related to something called Internet. It may take the form of forwarding emails, watching videos on youtube, Facebook, twitter, stupid games and random articles. When people here get upset they just download their feelings to something called a blog and continue with their work later on. There is also this phenomenon called “Review/Appraisal” which occurs annually in this part of the world. People dread this day and keep preparing to deal with the day throughout the year.

The language spoken here is called numbers(even the names of the people that are also known as an employee id). And if you happen to speak in any other language the words go unheard of. Although they make a constant effort to also speak a language called HR policy.

Most of the important decisions are taken by a certain sect of people called Managers or bosses. They don’t seem to be liked by the general folk and they speak in a secret language of their own called an MBA language.

So far so good. Lets see how things shape up for me here. Will keep you guys posted on the happenings here. Well, that is if I can, coz family, friends and social life is kind of stigma in this place. You know I have just come in here and want to be the good books of the folks. After all, I am supposed to stay here. Please forgive me if I don’t remember most of you after a few days. Thanks in advance for understanding me.

P.S: You may not have understood the last paragraph unless you also belong to cubeville or cubeville like places. English meaning: It is a nice way of saying “I am selfish and will only talk to you if I have something to get out of you”. The word sycophant in English is close to the above meaning.

Getting Dreamy

Prateek aka Patty is my friend from Blogosphere. It is really sweet of him to have taken out time for writing a review for my blog’s first anniversary. A very prolific writer himself, he finds time to read and comment on all the blogs he follows. He is always there for his friends. Apart from this he is a nature lover and also a animal lover. You can find out more abt him on http://unpredictableblog.wordpress.com/ Here is the review

It is a year now since Sapna started dreaming online. What can I say about this blog? One of the best in the World Wide Web if you ask me. Agreed that we have to sometimes wait for the update, but each new post is worth the wait.

Her initial posts were dedicated to computers and IT. Ya, ya….that is what you expect when an IT professional starts blogging. But later on she added different styles and wrote on a variety of topics. What makes this blog interesting is the fact that the author knows what she is talking about and weaves the words in ways that catches your attention.

From latest technical knowledge to social issues, the blog has something for everyone. Sappy has even written a love story once. Personally my favourite posts on her blog have been the ones in which she talks about her experiences eg The Ghostly Affair, which are not only a good read but also have a touch of comedy.

Her posts that analyse things are also worth reading. Be it posts on 24×7 news channels, reality shows, controversial topics, social issues or the latest one on diets. She knows what she is talking about and after reading her posts you know you are not dealing with an average person, but one with a very high intellectual level.

A very charming lady, whom I hope to meet this month for the first time, during my visit to Bangalore. A very happy anniversary, Sappy. Keep blogging, we have been and will always wait for your posts.

Cheers!!!

Never Been Kissed

Hey hey it has got nothing to do with me, I am talking about the movie “Never Been Kissed” starring Drew Barrymore that released in 1999. It was not exactly a runaway boxoffice hit (Infact the reviews are not so kind on the movie )but it happens to be one of my all-time favorite movies right from my college days. The kind you could watch any number of times.

Drew Barrymore can be funny, pitiful, cute, childish, charming all at the same time. In the movie she is a 25-yr old copy editor for Chicago-Sun Times who is assigned an under cover operation at the local high school to report on the current day’s teenager. This requires her to be friends with three snobbish no-brainer girls(the popular girls) who think looks are only thing that matter. This is in contrast to her high-school persona of a geeky, lonely girl with teenage problems and ends up making friends only with the other geeks.

/* Read this para only if you have watched the movie or don’t plan to watch it */

She takes help from her brother (who was a popular guy during his high school) and in the course of all this falls in love with her English teacher. But unfortunately she is supposed to show him in bad light in her article or she risks losing her job and also her immediate boss’s. So she goes ahead and writes the article titled “Never Been kissed”. It is in this  article she tells about herself and admits she is twenty-five and never been kissed and of her love to this teacher of hers. And now the fairy-tale ending. The teacher, who is pretty hurt on learning the truth, see’s the article at the last moment and comes running to the place where is she is waiting for him, to be kissed for the first time in her life (and a stadium full of people watching).

/* End of para*/

//Curiosity got the better of you and you read the para anyway right??

It is a sweet romantic comedy and I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for harmless fun of one and half hour. Hope you enjoy it too.
