Never Been Kissed

Hey hey it has got nothing to do with me, I am talking about the movie “Never Been Kissed” starring Drew Barrymore that released in 1999. It was not exactly a runaway boxoffice hit (Infact the reviews are not so kind on the movie )but it happens to be one of my all-time favorite movies right from my college days. The kind you could watch any number of times.

Drew Barrymore can be funny, pitiful, cute, childish, charming all at the same time. In the movie she is a 25-yr old copy editor for Chicago-Sun Times who is assigned an under cover operation at the local high school to report on the current day’s teenager. This requires her to be friends with three snobbish no-brainer girls(the popular girls) who think looks are only thing that matter. This is in contrast to her high-school persona of a geeky,lonely girl with teenage problems and ends up making friends only with the other geeks.

/* Read this para only if you have watched the movie or don’t plan to watch it */

She takes help from her brother (who was a popular guy during his high school) and in the course of all this falls in love with her English teacher. But unfortunately she is supposed to show him in bad light in her article or she risks losing her job and also her immediate boss’s. So she goes ahead and writes the article titled “Never Been kissed”. It is in this  article she tells about herself and admits she is twenty-five and never been kissed and of her love to this teacher of hers. And now the fairy-tale ending. The teacher, who is pretty hurt on learning the truth, see’s the article at the last moment and comes running to the place where is she is waiting for him, to be kissed for the first time in her life (and a stadium full of people watching).

/* End of para*/

//Curiosity got the better of you and you read the para anyway right??

It is a sweet romantic comedy and I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for harmless fun of one and half hour. Hope you enjoy it too.

  1. This happens to be one of my all time favs too… where you just take a sigh in the end! And well I don’t want to elaborate on the thought that comes with the sigh, here :)…. But Harry Met Sally tops my list; I have lost the count on how many times I have seen that movie.

    Though a lot of people have issues about such fairy tale romantic movies, I admit I love watching them…

  2. Havent seen this one “Never Been Kissed”. But have started the download and will watch it soon. Am sure its a lovely movie. Drew Barrymore excels in the romantic zone. “50 first dates” for instance. What a movie yaar !!! Simply amazing..

    “The Lake House” of Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock is also an awesome romantic movie. It potrays an intersection of timelines and the love vibrating between them.

    “Sweet November” of Charlize Theron & Keanu Reeves is also a great romantic idea. This movie literally made me cry and it still brings tears to my eyes whenever I watch it.

    “Nothing Hill”, “Sweet Home Alabama” are some of my favorites too in the romantic category.

    “When Harry Met Sally” – Amazing movie man.. Nice concept, nice story… Its one of the best romantic comedies ever made.

What say you?
