It was a normal day and I was googling out some info when I found this very interesting site-” Wikileaks.org” .
Wikileaks is a website that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive governmental, corporate, or religious documents, while attempting to preserve the anonymity and untraceability of its contributors. They claim to help you get out the truth safely.
This is what the first line on their website says “We are of assistance to peoples of all countries who wish to reveal unethical behavior in their governments and institutions.” According to Wikipedia, The site and its project were secret until their existence was disclosed in a January 2007 article after Wikileaks invited the editor of Secrecy News to serve on their advisory board.
Also it was a wiki earlier where everybody could post to it but very soon they abandoned the model and now the articles are reviewed by the anonymous wikileaks reviewers and goes through a internal review process before getting published. In June 2009, Wikileaks and Julian Assange won Amnesty International UK’s Media Award 2009 (in the category “New Media”) for the 2008 publication of “Kenya: The Cry of Blood – Extra Judicial Killings and Disappearances”, a report by the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights about police killings in Kenya. It also covers many top stories including the Guantenamo Bay Camp, which is very much in news these days.
I tried to check if I could find any Indian stories in there. I could spot one story on Goa Scarlett Johnson Keeling Case. It also features Whistle Blowers from India like Satyendra Dubey,Ana Hazare, Arun Shourie and Amitabha Choudhary.
I don’t know how many of you were aware of this, but it was a news for me.
