Resolutions and Blogathon 2014

Hello people, A Very Happy New Year. Hope the year 2014 brings in loads of joy and happiness for you and your family! 🙂

A friend of mine sent this pic in whatsapp. I couldn’t help laughing. This is exactly how we make resolutions. We humans are indeed slaves of our habits. You know calendar has changed, we  haven’t 😛

In fact TOI had this article where celebrities were asked, which is one resolution that they make every year and break it soon and the timeframe till which the resolution lasts.

I am no different so keeping up with the tradition, let me go ahead and make some new renewed resolutions too.

  1. Exercise!
  2. Eat healthy not pseudo-healthy
  3. Lose (at least some) weight.
  4. Get out more.
  5. Do more things that scare me. Darr ke aage jeet hai 😛
  6. Post more often on blog. Successfully complete a blog marathon. Started already. 😀
  7. Successfully complete a running marathon.
  8. Stay in touch with family and friends and reconnect with some of those friends.
  9. Learn and complete a project with a new programming language.
  10. Be positive. Live more. Love more.

Okay now it sounds more like life philosophy so I am gonna stop. This is my first post in the series for Blogathon 2014 for Jan. Check out some more awesome blogs which are part of the marathon here

Blogathon 2014

Four years old

My blog completes four years this month. Of late I haven’t been a great blogger (both in terms of writing and commenting on other’s blog). But fortunately for me I have had readers who appreciated the content and given the feedback for the rare content I posted and replied to my late comments on their blogs.  I take this opportunity to once again say “Thank you!” and every one of your visits, comments and likes matter. Thanks for helping me see this blog through 4 years 🙂

Since we are talking about4 year olds, that reminds me of my childhood. The simpler times, when we were innocent and the times were simpler as well. When the heroes, villains, situations came labelled and stories had nice endings and also a “moral of the story”. Imagine a world, where the bad guys wear black (Actually, I like black so I wish they don’t), laugh in their signature bad guy style and are aptly named by their parent’s as “Krur Singh” or ‘Dushtbuddhi’. And similarly the good guys are given good names and look great and so on. Me being the trusting kid, believed when I read such stories. In fact, I idolized so many characters from those stories. Wish I knew this Japanese proverb then

If you believe everything you read, better not read.

I remember reading the Famous fives, Nancy Drews and Hardy boys and wanting to be like them. Only all attempts to do so failed. I wanted to drink ale as the characters in most English stories but when I asked around half the people did not understand what I said and the other half thought I had gone mad(Now I realise they were probably right). I also wanted to have blue eyes (Only looks good if you are white. Thank God for not listening to my prayers. God knows best!).

Then I read about these kids going to their aunt or granny’s place for vacation and we did that too 🙂 These well-behaved kids helped their aunt with setting up the breakfast table and some household work. And since I was a very good kid too, 😉 wanted to  help my gran. So one morning I went into the kitchen and started helping with some random stuff when I heard someone shouting from behind “You haven’t taken bath yet. Why are  you touching those Prasad plates?”(For the uninitiated  Prasad is an offering to God during Puja/religious ritual).  And here I thought I am helping. This is not going to deter me, is it? I took a bath came back to help when I learnt that I am too slow, don’t know how to set up the Prasad plates, …  and a million other ritualistic nuances I didn’t even know existed. That was the end of my “help elders during vacation” story.

At least I thought I will do something adventurous and  save some kidnapped kids from the nearby caves. But as it turned out, there were no caves nearby neither did any neighbourhood kids get kidnapped.  That ended my hope of being like those characters. I was disappointed but also learnt the hard way that real life is different.

I always thought I’ll own a convertible just like Nancy Drew someday. There still I do have hope 🙂 (I am optimistic you see).

I still get influenced by the books I read only now I am more selective of what I read and the influences are more subtle. And I am quite sure it is true for a lot of people. Which is why we need good stories especially the ones we read during our formative years. Which are the stories/characters who have influences you most? Have you tried being like any of them? Something like “Main Madhuri Dixit banana chahati hoon”?

Since we are on the topic f books one post you must check out Steve McCurry’s Blog Post. And here’s a thought on probably why we get so influenced by books

“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul. – Joyce Carol Oates”

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 17,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 4 Film Festivals

Happy Blogging! 🙂

One and one are sometimes eleven

I was tagged by Bikram to answer the eleven questions and tag people in turn. Hence this post. 🙂

The Rules first:
1. You must post the rules.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

Here are my Bikram’s questions

1. What is it that you love to do, most, and would rather spend your time doing it?
I love reading and watching good movies. Give me chance and I will spend an entire lifetime reading books and watching movies.

2.What do you think others think of you?
Hmmm. I am not sure but two things that people invariably say about me: intelligent and silent.

3.Where do you see yourself end the next 10 years?
John Lennon said “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans”. 🙂

4. What is one quality of yours you admire the most?
I think optimism. I am an incorrigible optimist. Though I do get cynical at times but it doesn’t take long to recover from those cynical bouts.

5. Have you played a trick on someone that went bad, What is it?
Way back in school, one evening at my friend’s place, I was planning to scare a friend of mine in which I succeeded but as a side effect her Mom also got really scared. If I wasn’t in her good books I guess she would have thrown me out of her house 😳

6.Who would you say made you who you are today (other than your parents, if that is what you would answer ).
I believe we are a sum of all of our combined experiences in life. I’d say a lot of people have a contribution to who I am today but yes a major share does go to my Parents. 🙂

I was lucky to have some wonderful teachers, friends and some amazing bunch of people around me during my growing years. I so miss them. Staying away from home and not being in touch with many of these people makes me sad.

7. What gives you joy?
Hmmm… listening to that wonderful song that makes you lose yourself, Paani puri, travel to a place that I have never been before, a surprise gift, a surprise phone call, sitting on the sea-shore and listening to the waves hit the shore and all those little things that make you realise life is beautiful.

8.Who is your favourite hero and Why?
Shahrukh Khan. I like his larger than life image on-screen and his quick-wittedness off-screen. Also, the fact that he is a family man. 🙂

9.Why do you blog?
It started as an experiment, a place to rant, continued as a time pass. I kept going for the love of writing and sharing my thoughts. When I was demotivated the fact that my blog is read and people commented and kept coming back made me come back too. Once I discovered the real power of blogging and made some wonderful friends through it, I fell in love with it and haven’t looked back since then.

10.Do you believe in love stories , if yes why?
YES. They are one of the things that make life beautiful 🙂

11.Tell us an incident that you remember always.
The first time I made a friend who stayed on as my best friend and we remained so for many years to come. It was our second day at school(kindergarten) and in the tiffin break while I was trying to open my tiffin box it fell down. This girl from the same class came forward, put half of her tiffin in the lid of her tiffin box and offered it to me. I smiled and took it. I don’t even remember if we exchanged names but that marked the beginning of wonderful journey and the happy times we shared later.

Here are my questions:

1. Given a chance, which is the one movie character you would like to play?

2. If you were an animal who do you think you’d be and why? (Humans are animals too but you can’t use that as an answer)

3. A genie appears in front of you and grants you three wishes what would you ask for? (You can’t ask for more wishes for a wish)

4. If your life were a song, what would the title be?

5. Which one would you rather have beauty, brains or strength?

6. Do you think it is the man who should be paying on a date?

7. Do you believe in ‘Love at first sight’?

8. Name one movie you really hated.

9. Name one house-hold chore you really hate

10. What is your most treasured possession?

11. One thing about yourself that many people don’t know

Now the tagging part. Trying to find eleven people who haven’t been tagged 😯

And the list is not exhaustive. Anyone can pick the tag. Do pick the tag if you liked the questions.  😀

Phew! this was tougher than what I thought 🙂

abc ababab aabb aabb aaa bbb aaaa bbbb

For all those wondering about the title it means “long time No see(c)”. (PJ alert!!). That is what my blog seemed to be saying to me when I opened the page to look at the WordPress Christmas snow on my blog page.

I was lost in watching all the flash mob videos, different versions of Kolaveri Di, reading news about “Dirty picture” and wasting lots of time on Facebook. Have been ill in between and kind of became completely useless  for sometime. So my poor blog suffered from complete lack of attention.

Just re-posting a few funny tweets, I found. Of course, I hardly use my Twitter account so most of these are courtesy “Google-baba”

The first two are for the voice app “Siri” for the new iPhone

  • Q. “Siri, find me the nearest gynaecologist.” A. “Kalmoohi, kahaan muh kaala karaake aayi hai?”
  • Q: Siri, will you marry me? A: My end user licensing agreement does not cover marriage. My apologies. (Actual answer :D)
  • If one synchronized swimmer drowns do the rest all have to drown too?
  • The only way Mark Zuckerberg can get seriously injured is if Rajinikanth pokes him on Facebook
  • Hi. I suffer from amnesia. Do I come here often? 😀
  • Respect your elders!…. They made it through school without Google or Wikipedia! 😉
  • If Apple wants to sell iPhone 4s at a ridiculous price, the least they could do is replace Siri with Savita bhabhi. :O
  • Q. “Siri, explain the movie ‘Inception’ to me.” A. “Saree mein saree, Parag saree.”
  • Do you have Facebook? -yes. YouTube? -yes. Twitter? of course. Life? I opened an account but I don’t really use it!
  • You never know what you have untill you clean your room…
Till Then C ya. Take Care. Have a nice day!!

Happy Birthday again :)
